Rita Gallagher

Rita Gallagher, 59, of Pottsville, formerly of Minersville, passed away Friday, June 2, 2023 at the LVHN Cedar Crest Campus, Allentown. Rita was born in Pottsville, March 21, 1964. She was the daughter of the late Joseph and Ann Marie (Nancy) Gallagher. She was a retired part of the Avenues Community Center. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant sister Regina. She was a member of the Holy Family Parish of Minersville. Rita had Down syndrome and was able to participate in the Special Olympics. She enjoyed coloring and board games with her 13 nieces and nephews and her late father Joe Gallagher. She was her mother’s special child. Rita is survived by her sisters Rose Ann Petrusky, Mary Anne McMillan (Doug), Theresa Yurkonis (Joe), Marie Reiley, Joanne Penny (David), and brothers Thomas Gallagher (Regina), and Michael Gallagher (Karen). Rita was always ready to participate in any activity: wiffle ball at the family picnic, bowling, ceili dancing, board games or the wheelchair race at the Special Olympics. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Michael the Archangel Church of the Holy Family Parish 541 Sunbury st. in Minersville, on Thursday, June 8, 2023 at 11:00. am with Reverend Edward Connolly celebrant. All are respectfully invited to attend a visitation at the Mahal-Ritzel Funeral Home Inc., Minersville, Thursday from 9:00 to 10:30 am. Private interment St. Vincent De Paul #2 Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to Avenues Community Center 2 Park St, Pottsville, PA 17901 or the Special Olympics www.support.specialolympics.org .
