John (Chinny) Luchanin, 95, of Minersville, passed away Sunday, July 16th, at Providence Place, Pottsville.
John was born in Blackwood, on June 2, 1928, a son of the late Anna (Fanok) and Wasyl Charlie Luchanin.
He was the widower of Joan (Reno) Luchanin.
He was formerly a Machinist at Extrudo/Exxon. He was a member of the former St. George Ukrainian Orthodox Church as well as Ss. Peter & Paul Byzantine Catholic Church.
A Member of the Byzantine Male Choir, & the Choir of St. George Ukr. Orthodox Church. In addition to his parents, and his wife, Joan, he was preceded in death by his Sister, Anna Lapinsky.
Chinny is survived by a son, Gregory, husband of Christine Luchanin, four daughters, Caren, wife of Robert Reichhard, Debra Luchanin, and husband, Justin Meyer, Joanne Luchanin DiCello, and Tanya, wife of George Rubright. A sister, Gloria Anderson
He is also survived by Grandchildren: R.J. Reichhard, Sabrina, George, & Linda Rubright, Matthew DiCello. Great grandchildren; Dason, Kaylee, Tristan, Anna Mae, Darla, & Zak. As well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Chinny enjoyed life to the fullest, whether traveling the US with his beloved wife Joan, gathering with family and friends, or closely following all of the Philly sports teams. He was often recognized around town as "the guy in the Flyers jacket". With a beautiful bass voice and an ear for harmony, he loved singing in church, with various choirs, on car rides, or for any occasion. He enjoyed passing along to his children his deep pride in his Ukrainian culture and heritage. John will be remembered for his welcoming nature, generous support of underprivileged communities, loyal support of the Phillies, and his great sense of humor. His genuine warmth, quick smile and kind heart will be forever missed. Until we meet again. The family expresses their deep appreciation to the staff of Geisinger St. Luke's ICU team, to the very kind nurses of Compasus Hospice and most especially to the nurses, aides, medical technicians and the entire staff of Providence Place Pottsville for their compassionate care and loving attention. Thank you for creating a welcoming home for John for the past four months. We are also incredibly grateful to the many family and friends who devoted their time, love and support recently and over the years. You are all angels on Earth.

The Office of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:30 AM on Monday, at Ss. Peter & Paul Byzantine Catholic Church in Minersville, with Very Rev. Gregory J. Noga officiating. Interment Ss. Peter & Paul Byzantine Catholic Cemetery.
